Swot Up
Do your research well. You need to know about the fund and your prospective benefactor inside and out. Your interviewers will want to see that you know what you are getting into, that they are not just another random organisation you are trying to squeeze a few ringgit out of.
Dress Sense
Needless to say, you should dress to impress. Neatness is the order of the day. You should always keep things formal for an interview. Hair should be neat, shoes clean, polished and spotless, suit ironed, and body and teeth smelling fresh. Girls may wear minimal make up or none at all while boys is preferable to be clean-shaven; beards or moustaches.
Prepare Your Paperwork
You should make photocopies of all your certificates, reference letters, parents’ pay slips and relevant financial documents requested by the organisation, and have these copies certified by a Commissioner of Oaths well before the interview date. Even if you are not told to bring them along, it’s good to be prepared.
What to Expect
In essence, interviewers will be expecting you to expand on your application and justify why they should give you the money.
- Sit up straight. Do not slouch.
- Listen carefully to the interviewer’s questions.
- Smile! Even if you are nervous, a smile will give the impression that you are a positive and approachable person. This helps in building rapport with the interviews and other candidates.
